Abandon all hope, you who enter here!

Ever wonder where that quotation came from? I had heard it without knowing it's source, then I read “Inferno,” The Divine Comedy, by Dante Alighieri (1265–1321). He used the phrase as the 'inscription at the entrance to Hell', in the words of the Bartleby.com entry for this quotation.
